Everyone is welcome
Currently we are the only non-school or academic affiliated rowing club in Cape Town.
We are passionate about developing rowing in Cape Town. We offer facilities for those wishing to row competitively beyond school or university and for people who wish to learn.
Alfred Rowing Club
Alfred is your friendly rowing club in Cape Town, South Africa.
We have a long and interesting history dating back to 1864. We are proud to call ourselves the oldest sports club in Africa.
We cater for beginners, experienced rowers, senior rowers and anyone with a passion for rowing.
We have excellent facilities and a great team and community who are ready to welcome and support you in your rowing journey.
Zeekoevlei, Grassy Park
Our home base is Zeekoevlei, Grassy Park where we share the club house and facilities of our parent Zeekoeivlei Yacht Club.
In 1986 Alfred Rowing Club merged with Zeekoevlei Yacht Club and several schools established boathouses nearby.
Where we row
Our home base is the freshwater lake called Zeekoevlei located in Grassy Park in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. The name roughly translated means “hippopotamus marsh” but don’t worry there are no hippos there any more.
Occasionally we row in other location around the region in the Western Cape: we arrange training visits to row at Misverstand Dam and with our friends at affiliated clubs and sometimes on the sea.
